How Microsoft plans to market against the iPad. →
ballsmoke: parislemon: Misdirect, stall, and pray. Given what we’re seeing from Apple, Google, HP/Palm, and even RIM in the space, Microsoft is really, really screwed here. Nothing is more depressing than Microsoft’s outlook in the tablet space. It’s insulting to think that no executive seems to think the Metro OS is a capable tablet OS. What market research are they using that says Windows...

“Nobody uses AIR because it delivers better-quality desktop apps.”
– Alex Payne - Shortchanging Your Business with User-Hostile Platforms The most succinct statement (fact?) that I’ve seen to date against that wretched platform. The internet and every OS would be better off without it. (via chartier)

A rant: Education, "ICT" and Your Face
I’m keeping this curt, being at work, so let’s get right into this. Was chatting with someone about how the hell people can possibly manage to lose a file on a computer, and came to the following conclusion: Schools should teach directory structures to kids. Be this at primary or secondary school level, I really couldn’t care less. But everyone growing up in the 21st fucking...

Simple Questions for Google Regarding Chrome's... →
marco: By John Gruber. Going to the post in question on the Chromium blog and reading the comments just shows how much uproar this is over this unfathomable move. I personally am led to assume there’s some sort of deal with Adobe in the works.

Tim Morgan: Separating good design and good... →
riscfuture:  Apple makes it very easy to make an application that behaves as you would expect; all you have to do is use the existing Cocoa UI elements as intended.  Usability comes free.  The curiosity for me is when designer/developers exert time and effort rewriting UI elements from scratch, merely to make them look differently from the Aqua UI.  Now the onus is on the developer to replicate...

Sandy Bridge i7-2600K overclocked to 4.5GHz on air... →
For the uninitiated, the *K-series are designed for overclocking. This is also the chip I’ll be purchasing (with my hefty employee discount - the RRP is $317 but I should be able to halve that - EDIT: Employee price: $160) as soon as I get some cash in — it becomes available to me to order next Thursday and will form the basis for my gaming PC. The dream is about to become reality.

Tim Morgan: The failures of the Mac App Store's... →
riscfuture: The design flaws of the Mac App Store, however, are largely overshadowed by those of the first app I downloaded using it: Twitter 2.0.  Let me cover a few of the more egregious ones I’ve found. The worst of the worst of these is the window dragging.  Look at the main Twitter window and tell me: Where do you click to move it? The answer is in the black areas, something you may...

Marco.org: Google's decreasingly useful,... →
marco: Searching Google is now like asking a question in a crowded flea market of hungry, desperate, sleazy salesmen who all claim to have the answer to every question you ask. “Hey, anyone know how to wire an outlet?” “Did you say ‘how to wire an outlet’?” “I can help you with how to wire an outlet!” “Here is info on how to wire an outlet!” “Bargain prices on how to wire an outlet!” “Guide...
